Strip It

If you strip religion
Of its ornamentation,
Of the confusion,
Take away the texts,
Fire the middle man
Between you
the believer
and
your god
the divinity(ies),
What is left?
After the excess
Washes away
Isn’t there only
One thing left?
Without politics and
External poisons,
Left is an internal spectacle of all your insides.
Keep in mind that this
Connection that remains
Between the you and the divine
Could only be called spirituality,
Not this convoluted organization
Of others’ misconstrued beliefs in your own mind.
When your head again
Becomes filled
With thoughts not your own
Is when you should begin to worry.
