This is Carol Ann Duffy’s “Text” and I was wondering how you feel about texts. Text messages, to me, are a double edged sword. There is an instant communication that can last for hours, but then in the same breath, it doesn’t perfectly convey what needs to be heard. So as we all adapt to different forms of communication, what do we lose, what do we gain?

I tend the mobile now
like an injured bird.

We text, text, text
our significant words.

I re-read you first,
your second, your third,

look for your small xx,
feeling absurd.

The codes we send
arrive with a broken chord.

I try to picture your hands,
their image is blurred.

Nothing my thumbs press
will ever be heard.
